So long, winter - hello, long weekend.
As Bostonians head to the Cape or the Vineyard for the long weekend, you'll be scoring hot restaurant reservations, river boat cruise tickets, or maybe even catch a Red Sox game. Our picks for the weekend include the Boston Calling Music Festival, a sunset cruise around Boston Harbor, dropping some Benjamins in the shops on Boston's posh Newbury Street, and snagging reservations to Cultivar, which overlooks the old State House and is just minutes from our hotel.
It can't be denied - NYC is a great destination any weekend. Choose from one of our five locations and you'll have the perfect home base from which to set out and discover (or get reacquainted). We recommend taking a tour of one of the US Navy ships docked for Fleet Week, strolling through the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit - a yearly NYC tradition, snapping an Insta-worthy pic of Manhattanhenge, scheduled to fall on May 28th, and hopping a quick subway ride over to Brooklyn to eat your way through Smorgasburg, the largest open-air food market in America.
If you haven't been to Philly yet, you're definitely missing out. Named one the top 50 places to visit by Travel+Leisure magazine and second best place to visit in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report, Philadelphia is the perfect destination for a long weekend getaway. We think you should check out the Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square, take a tour of the Eastern State Penitentiary, enjoy some of the best barbeque in the city at The Khyber Pass Pub or head to the newest up-and-coming neighborhood of Fishtown where new restaurants, bars and cafes are opening almost every day.
Pay tribute to America's heroes, learn some of our country's history, AND enjoy a great restaurant and bar scene? We must be in DC. Our picks for the best things to do over the weekend are attending the largest Memorial Day parade in the country; enjoying the free National Memorial Day Choral Festival at the Kennedy Center or the Jazz in the Garden at the National Gallery of Arts' Sculpture Garden; learning about Civil War History at the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum; and topping it all off with a waterfront meal or shopping excursion in Georgetown.
There's a reason (quite a few, actually) why Houston was named the Best City in America. For starters, it's home to the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center - if you have a few hours, we recommend the comprehensive, guided Level 9 Tour. Add in a delicious mix of ethnic cuisines, fantastic seafood, and great barbeque, like Pappa Charlies Barbeque a short walk from our hotel. Top it off with unique, world-class museums and cultural landmarks. Houston's Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest in the country.
Get a taste of what summer in Chicago has to offer with a long weekend getaway to Chitown. The warmer weather is perfect for exploring Chicago's famous architecture - choose one of Chicago's many boat tours for a great view - or paddling down the the Chicago River on a kayak. Visit Navy Pier, a six-block stretch of rides, restaurants and entertainment which opens Memorial Day weekend with a fireworks show. We recommend eating al fresco - one of our favs is Oak Street Beach Food & Drink. Try the mango mojito and fish tacos. #yum
One visit to San Francisco and it's easy to see why so many people have left their hearts here. Our picks for the perfect 3-day weekend in Frisco include a visit to SFMOMA, a sail on the Red and White Fleet for up-close views of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, some dancing-in-the-street at the Carnaval Festival and Parade and sipping champagne and dining on oysters at the glamorous Leo's Oyster Bar, just steps from our doors.
