Your Guide To 4th Of July Events In Washington, DC Food, Fireworks And Freedom

It’s the biggest birthday party around, and if you’re planning a trip to Washington, D.C., what better time to visit than Independence Day!  Here are 5 ways you can make the most out of the Fourth of July in D.C:

Catch a fireworks display

On the mall or in a kayak on the Potomac – even on the capitoal riverfront – seeing the dazzling display of pyrotechnics light up the night sky is as synonymous with Independence Day as it gets.  There are plenty of places around the city to catch a glimpse of this annual tradition, but perhaps the most serene spot is the water.  You can rent a kayak from several different locations that the Club Quarters White House concierge team can navigate you towards – their insider knowledge will allow you to find the perfect place to celebrate our nation’s birth. There’s no better way to spend the 4th of July in D.C.

Visit the memorials

You can’t spell freedom without “free”, and you’re in luck – most of the major structures that call this city home come at no cost.  See Abraham Lincoln’s memorial and the expansive reflecting pool that he sits in front of or pay your respects to those who protected our freedom at the Vietnam War Memorial just steps away.  Continue down the mall to admire the towering tribute to our first president at the Washington Monument, before making your way to see the classical Roman rotunda of the George Washington Memorial.  With so many more sites to expand your historical knowledge from, your 4th of July in D.C. stay will encourage return trips to see the rest of what our nation’s capital has to offer.

Plan a picnic

Steps from Club Quarters White House – as well as The White House – McPherson Square is a frequent stop for locals and visitors alike.  Located in the heart of central downtown, it’s a wonderful spot on a sunny day to take a seat and see those coming and going from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Lafayette Building, and other important institutions that line the streets of this commercial/business district.  Local vendors can often be found selling their wares here, so you can choose to have the hotel prepare a basket for your meal or decide to sample offerings from the area on arrival to the park-like space.  Political campaigns and demonstrations can also be found using this space as well, allowing you to see history taking shape right before your eyes.

Catch a baseball game

Why not ring in America’s birthday with its national pastime?  The Nationals Baseball Stadium is a short 10-minute drive from Club Quarters Washington, D.C., and is home to the 2019 world series champs.  The first Washington Nationals played from 1886 to 1889, making them one of the oldest teams in the sport.  The 4th of July wouldn’t be complete without hotdogs, healthy debates on batting averages, and a couple of home runs – though there are no guarantees on the last highlight, just hopeful fans of the sport here!

Partake in local events

You will find the city is abuzz with a myriad of DC 4th of July parades, 4th of July events – and likely, 4th of July themed foods.  Hundreds of thousands will line Constitution Avenue just before noon to see fife and drum corps, floats, military/specialty units, national dignitaries, and more ring in the occasion in true patriotic fashion.  Local and national artists can be seen performing around the city, so you’ll want to make sure you ask your Club Quarters concierge where and when to take advantage of these annual offerings.  Even if you’re in town on business, it’s a time to celebrate, and with the property’s proximity to many of the city’s highlights, you’ll be in the perfect position to see them in their red, white, and blue glory.

Oh say can you see – yourself spending the 4th of July holiday with us?  Be sure to book your stay at Club Quarters White House before this popular time to plan a visit to Washington, D.C. sells out.  We can’t wait to revel in the festivities with you!
