July 4th Events in Boston

Boston Pops

47 David G. Mugar Way, 1.1 miles from Club Quarters Boston

The Boston Pops Concert and Fireworks Spectacular is Boston’s most popular concert and fireworks show on Fourth of July weekend. The Pops perform a magnificent and varied show, featuring traditional music pieces and the show’s signature finale, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, that uses real cannon fire to transition seamlessly into the start of a fireworks show that lights up the Boston sky.

The Boston Pops have entertained audiences in Boston and elsewhere for almost 140 years and were originally meant to perform light classics and the day’s popular music during the orchestra’s off-season. The group grew in popularity to reach the status it holds today, with nationally televised performances and even Grammy nominations.

Harborfest

Washington at Summer & Winter Streets, 0.3 miles from Club Quarters Boston

Harborfest is the largest Fourth of July festival in the United States, with events ranging from live music and historical reenactments to a classic car show and the ever-popular fireworks over Boston’s Inner Harbor. This festival takes place on Fourth of July weekend and packs hundreds of activities into those few days. Downtown Crossing will showcase Boston’s talented musical community throughout the festival at these shows, all free to the public.

In addition to musical entertainment, visitors can browse an Arts and Crafts Market featuring local wares, hear live renditions of the many speeches that shaped our early nation, and find a prime viewing spot for the fireworks over Boston’s Inner Harbor.

Harborfest Flag Raising and Parade

Boston City Hall, 1 City Hall Square, 0.3 miles from Club Quarters Boston

Following a flag-raising ceremony on Fourth of July, a parade will begin at City Hall Plaza and stop at Granary Burying Ground to pay respects to buried patriots before continuing to the Old State House.

History buffs can follow the parade route to join the Captain Commanding of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company for a traditional reading of the Declaration of Independence from the balcony of the Old State House, where it was read to Bostonians for the first time ever in 1776.

Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum

306 Congress Street, 0.8 miles from Club Quarters Boston

Step back in history and be part of the Boston Tea Party – chat with actors, tour full-scale replicas of 18th-century ships, and even toss some tea overboard! The museum holds interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and reenactments that bring the story of the Boston Tea Party to life, including one of the original crates thrown into the harbor on that famous night in 1773.

The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum is located on Boston’s historic waterfront, a popular destination for people looking for things to do on fourth of July in Boston. The waterfront is home to live music, street vendors, and more during special events like Fourth of July weekend.
