Nicknamed the “Paris on the Prairie,” Chicago is well-known for its captivating architecture, many museums and top-notch performing arts scene. And getting around is a breeze, thanks to a convenient and affordable bus and elevated train system that zips from one vibrant neighborhood to the next — offering stunning views all the way.
Heading to Chicago for business or just craving a fun and fulfilling city getaway? Club Quarters makes for the perfect home base, with two properties in the heart of the Loop steps from some of its top attractions — Club Quarters Wacker at Michigan and Club Quarters Central Loop. Here’s our insider’s guide to art and culture activities in the Windy City.
Museums
Chicago is home to countless museums, and you’ll find plenty of great ones strutting distance from both Club Quarters hotels. Just a few blocks from our Central Loop location is The Art Institute Chicago — home to a wide range of permanent and visiting exhibits that cover everything from Impressionism to medieval armor and weapons. Just down the street from The Art Institute is the Pritzker Military Museum & Library. Keep heading north on Michigan Avenue and you’ll hit the Chicago Cultural Center and the American Writers Museum (just a three- and six-minute walk from our Wacker at Michigan location, respectively).
Architecture
As we mentioned earlier, Chicago is known for its spectacular architecture. In fact, it’s considered the birthplace of the skyscraper. The secret to quickly getting to know the unique history and artistic background of the Windy City’s many dazzling buildings is to head to the Chicago Architecture Center just minutes from both Club Quarters locations. The team there offers fascinating walking (or CAC) tours around the Loop. The CAC also offers boat tours along the river — it’s hands-down the best way to get acquainted with the city’s stunning skyline. For fans of the Gilded Era, there’s the Driehaus Museum of Chicago, a beautifully restored manor home from the late 19th century that houses a treasure-trove of period furniture, architectural motifs, Tiffany lamps and more. It’s just half a mile from Club Quarters Wacker at Michigan.
Entertainment
Chicago puts on some world-class shows, from award-winning musicals and dramas to wow-worthy ballets and musical performances. The Harris Theater at Millennium Park is a favorite, known for its talented and diverse array of resident dance companies, musicians, fine artists, and more. It’s only half a mile from Club Quarters Wacker at Michigan. The Lyric Opera of Chicago is also just a 20-minute walk from our Wacker on Michigan location and a 12-minute walk from our Central Loop location, and Ballet Chicago is less than 10 minutes on foot from both properties. The James M. Nederlander Theater and Chicago Theater are also less than a mile from each. If you’re craving some laughs, check out one of the city’s famous comedy clubs. There’s the Comedy Bar in Streeterville and the legendary Laugh Factory near Boystown. Both can be reached via the Red Line.
