Whether you’re craving a weekend away or planning ahead for summer adventures, there’s always something to uncover in Chicago. Pack up the kids, pick up their grandparents and set out for some old-fashioned family fun with these new and unique attractions.
The tried-and-true attractions never get old, even if you’ve been there before. Lincoln Park Zoo is celebrating its new arrivals, including a litter of naked mole rats and a baby African spoonbill. Meanwhile, the Shedd Aquarium welcomed Harmony, the newest calf to join the pod of Pacific white-sided dolphins. The Field Museum has also reopened its doors and, alongside its permanent exhibits, is now honoring the art and culture of the Apsáalooke women and warriors of the Northern Plains.
The Museum of Illusions opened its doors just last year and recently reopened with its mind-bending displays of holograms and optical illusions. Part educational, all inspirational, exhibits invite you to solve puzzles, trick your mind and capture Insta-worthy photographs alongside your loved ones.
Calling all Marvel fans. Get a glimpse into 80 years of comic book icons at the Museum of Science and Industry. The new exhibit, “Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes,” runs through October 24 and shares the stories of your favorite heroes and villains through original comic pages, costumes, props and more.
The Chicago Children’s Museum always has fun, interactive art and activities. Also make time for the Bronzeville Children’s Museum, which holds the distinction as the first and only African American children’s museum in the country. Celebrating Black inventors, stimulating S.T.E.M learning and educating kids ages 3 to 9 about local Bronzeville landmarks, this unique space is dedicated to shaping future leaders.
