From busy metropolises to charming getaways, here’s where to book your next trip for one.

Sometimes the best travel companion is me, myself, and I. Venturing out on your own means you get to set the rules and have full control over the itinerary. Eat what you want when you want, spend as little or as much time in a place as you like, and feel free to skip some sights. Plus, you don’t have to worry about coordinating with others’ schedules when booking.

To help inspire you, here are some of the most solo-friendly cities you should consider visiting for your next trip.

New York City

Designed for the independently minded, New York City is a popular option for solo travelers. It allows them to get lost in the crowd—in a good way. It’s also accessible from many locations, with plenty of airport and train options. For convenient access to transportation and all the greatest restaurants, shops, and attractions, stay at any Club Quarters Hotel in NYC and navigate the city with ease.

If you’re looking for a truly solo getaway, avoid the crowds around Times Square and Broadway, and wander around quieter neighborhoods like the Upper West Side, the West Village, and parts of Brooklyn. Stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge or pack a book and snag a table for one at a cozy restaurant. As a solo traveler, you have a better shot at getting into coveted spots, especially if you don’t mind sitting by yourself at the bar.

Chicago

Like New York City, Chicago is easy to navigate on foot or via the “L” train. And there’s plenty to see and do including popular activities, parks, and events like an architectural boat tour, a visit to the Art Institute of Chicago or the Field Museum, and a stop at the famous Bean sculpture for a selfie. Club Quarters Hotel, Central Loop is located within walking distance of most of these attractions, making it easy to explore the area. Plus, the city’s thriving dining scene offers lots of tasty options to satisfy all tastes. And don’t forget to take a tour of Chicago’s best deep-dish pizza places. Bonus to traveling solo? You won’t have to share the pie with anyone.

San Francisco

When you visit San Francisco, your solo itinerary should include must-see attractions like Telegraph Hill’s Coit Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the city’s historic Chinatown neighborhood. Pick up a book at City Lights Bookstore, which was made famous by the writers of the Beat Generation, and is located within walking distance of Club Quarters Hotel. And be sure to grab something to eat at one of the city’s diverse restaurants that serve everything from Japanese to Mexican cuisine. Plus, getting to and around San Francisco on your own is a breeze thanks to the city’s international airport, cable cars, streetcars, trains, and buses, including the popular hop-on, hop-off ones.

Washington, DC
If you’re interested in exploring museums—from art to history—alone, head to Washington, DC where you’ll have more than 20 to choose from—most of which are free. That means you can spend as much or as little time in each as you wish without feeling pressured to get your money’s worth.  Club Quarters Hotel in Washington, DC is located near The White House, making it a great jumping-off point for visiting the city’s major attractions, diverse neighborhoods, and lively dining scene. Just be sure to eat a hearty breakfast before tackling the town.

Boston

Boston is a good option for solo travelers because it’s a big city but with a small-town feel, making it more manageable to explore on your own. Head to Quincy Market for shopping and classic eats like clam chowder and Boston cream pie. Visit one of Boston‘s most charming areas, Beacon Hill, with its cobblestone streets and vintage lamp posts. Or get lost in thought during a warm spring day at Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S. that’s located within walking distance of Club Quarters Hotel.

London

In addition to visits to London’s popular landmarks like Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, a solo tour across the pond should include stag-friendly spots like Borough Market and The Tate. Catch a show at The Globe, which boasts historic pews instead of individual seats, and take a bike ride along the city’s quieter routes that meander through parks and forests. Or hit up one of London’s many comedy clubs for a laugh. Plus, there’s less of a language barrier for English speakers in London, so if you’re traveling alone you’ll be less intimidated to ask for help. Also, all of the city’s Club Quarters Hotels are near major attractions and transportation hubs, making exploring easy.

Houston

If you’re heading to Houston on your own, you’ll want to take advantage of the city’s green spaces like Discovery Green, a small 12-acre urban park that serves as an oasis among the downtown hustle and bustle and is within easy walking distance of Club Quarters Hotel. This is where locals and visitors alike gather to go kayaking on Kinder Lake, take fitness classes like tai chi, and watch movie screenings on the lawn. Also, check out the Houston neighborhood known as 19th Street in the Heights, which is lined with great restaurants, cozy cafes,  art galleries, and locally-owned stores.  Finally, be sure to wander around the NASA Johnson Space Center at your leisure.

Ready to explore on your own? Book a stay at any Club Quarters Hotel located in these solo-friendly cities.
